Hey guys!

With classes coming to an end soon I'll be getting back to Louisville, and hopefully we'll get going on this new record. As for right now, despite a few papers and some kind of eye infection I've written 2 new songs in the last few days. One's a very heavy track called "North and South" and the other is a little quieter, and thus is appropriately titled "Whisper."

Also, thanks to the people who came out to see me play last week on campus here at EKU, it was a good show headlined by Ryan Adcock from Cincinnati. See him play if you ever get the chance.

Here was my set list for those missed it...

Nothing Changes in a Day
Sit and Spin
Strange Town
Something Real
Semi-Sweet

Do I have a thing about titles starting with the letter "s"??? Maybe it's some weird kind of OCD or something...lol.

Keep checking back, I plan to sort of document the making of the new record on this journal!

Peace & Love, MAL

Hey everyone!!!

First of all, my apologies we've been out of touch for so long…we've had some technical difficulties, and I've been swamped at school just as Ryan has been at work. I've been slowly turning out some new songs, and I think with a few minor equipment upgrades, and the higher quality of the new material the new record is gonna blow Burning Through Nowhere out of the water.

About the new record…

In between my class work and my obsessive-compulsive college basketball viewing I've managed to come up with what I think is some pretty good stuff. Some of it has materialized into completed songs like "Something Real," "Everyone Bleeds a Little Bit," and "Sit and Spin." There are also a lot of partially completed songs like, "Bardstown Road," and "Riot." And…fortunately for us we've got a lot of stuff we worked on during the BTN sessions that we can get back to, and hopefully work in with the new songs…including a few potentially recognizable titles like "Strange Town," "Sex, Drugs, and a Hard Place," and "Jane."

So things are looking good and we're looking to hopefully release the new record (tentatively titled Speak Only in Lies) in about August of this year. We've all got our fingers crossed.

To talk a little bit about the direction we're taking…Burning Through Nowhere was a very poignant CD written mostly at a pretty volatile time, at least as far as my mental/emotional state was concerned. I think the new record will be less of a "screw the world" kind of thing, and more of a "ROCK THE WORLD!" kind of thing. I really just wanna let go and have fun with this one, and I think the fun I've been having over past year is going to show up. It will certainly sound more reassuring, and hopefully a little more upbeat…but don't worry, that typical TB melancholy won't be totally absent ;) I've also heard that Mr. Renn is working on some potential instrumental interludes…I've been out of town, so I've yet to hear anything, but I'm chomping at the bit to record this album.

So, I hope this message finds everyone well…happy and healthy. I'm gonna try to post some updates from time to time, so check back every once in a while, and feel free o contact us if you want!

Peace, Love, and Rock'n'Roll! God Bless, MAL

Hi all -

I was just going to comment a bit on working in Thoughtbrake. We have a lot of fun doing what we do. Matt has sometimes overflowing musical vision. He's actually more than prolific enough to leave this musical outfit some room to grow. Anyone with some good musical talent - esp. drums, backup vocals, guitar / bass or keys - who has an interest in doing some work with us is encouraged to e-mail us at tbmail@thoughtbrake.com and let us know what you can do. We usually work at a high pace, and at irregular times, and of course, have a lot of fun doing it. We expect anyone hopping aboard to do the same. And our wish list is below.

the wish list

an ideal TB additional musician would have some of the following going on:
- plays drums, bass, guitar, keys
- backing vocals a plus
- thinks a lot of pop music really sucks nowadays
- is in it for the music
Or just this: low maintenance, high talent

m. lega :  vocals, guitars, keyboard
